JAT for environment

Join us in making a positive impact on the environment!

The growth in population and industrialization has led to a rise in the usage of goods and energy, resulting in a considerable increase in global CO2 emissions. This has significantly affected the climate, emphasizing the need for us to take responsibility for our actions and make changes to our lifestyles to reduce our impact on the environment.

Our team has taken several initiatives to optimize and minimize the carbon footprint, created by our event. In organization of such event, the biggest part of the CO2 emissions comes from transportation.

What can you do to reduce the footprint of your travel?

  • Carpool or use ride-sharing services. This way you can reduce the number of cars on the road and lower carbon emissions. You are welcome to join our group on Facebook, where you can arrange a shared transport with other runners.
  • Consider travelling by bus or train instead of flying as these modes of transportation typically produce fewer emissions.
  • If the plane is the only option for you, try to book a direct flight as they are more fuel-efficient than connecting flights.

Since JATR runners come to Kranjska Gora from all around the world, we invite you to join our efforts in reducing and trying to compensate for the CO2 emissions, created by your travel to Kranjska Gora. Here below is a simple calculator, which you can use to calculate the carbon footprint of your journey.

If you would like to try to offset the carbon footprint of your transport, we are giving you the opportunity to do so! J We are collecting donations for forest revitalization in the Karst region in Slovenia, which has been severely affected by fires in summer 2022.

We have prepared a simple calculation, based on which you can monetize the carbon footprint that you have calculated above. On average one tree consumes approximately 1.000 kg of CO2 in its life span. The price of one tree in the initiative “Drevo za Cerje – A Tree for Cerje” is 10 €. Based on that we decided to use the following conversion: 100 kg CO2 = 1 €.

Importantly, as you may have noticed, this initiative has a much higher purpose than just offsetting carbon emissions. Our aim is to help revitalize a Slovenian region, that has been severely affected by the fires in summer of 2022. After the event, the collected funds will be donated to Fundacija Vrabček upanja, which runs the initiative for reforestation in the Karst region, called “Drevo za Cerje – A tree for Cerje”. In this initiative, pine, maple, and oak trees are being planted to revive the forests.

So – let’s do something good together!

Note: Although a specific amount is calculated for your travel, you are not obligated to donate that exact amount. You have the freedom to donate any amount of your choice.

The donation can be made on the following account – please, don’t forget to mention: “Donation for Karst”:
